Willard Board of Education Selects Superintendent

In response to Dr. Matt Teeter announcing his resignation on December 7, 2021, the Willard Board of Education initiated a collaborative selection process including the Board of Education, staff and community stakeholders for the next superintendent of schools.

On Thursday, February 10, 2022, the Willard Board of Education met in a special session and selected to extend a contract offer to Dr. Eric Wilken for the Superintendent of Schools position beginning July, 1, 2022. His contract is scheduled to be finalized at the February business meeting.

Dr. Wilken is currently serving as the Assistant Superintendent of Operations for Willard Schools and joined the district in July 2021. Before joining Willard, he served as Superintendent of Weaubleau Schools for 11 years.

The district had seventeen qualified applicants for this position. The Board narrowed it to seven candidates and commissioned an internal committee which included administrators, directors and staff to join the Board in an in-person interview session.  That committee gave recommendations that assisted the Board of Education in reducing the candidate pool to three finalists.

Those three candidates were then brought before a committee of community stakeholders and the Board of Education for an extended interview process where the community committee provided valuable feedback for the Board’s consideration before the final selection was made.

The Board is excited to welcome Dr. Wilken as the new Superintendent and are looking forward to the great things he will bring to our district.
