Willard High School

Welcome back, Willard High School families! The year has started off in a fantastic way with many of our students and parents attending our Meet the Teacher Night! Thanks to all who were able to attend and we are looking forward to the possibilities for this school year!

Last year was a great homecoming for Willard and we look forward to another year of great homecoming festivities on September 20th! One Team, One Tiger!

With the many activities and opportunities at Willard High School, we have had students involved in state and national tournaments this summer and they performed extremely well.

  • Our baseball team represented Willard extremely well with an 8-2 win over Staley at the end of the year and placed 3rd overall at State! Great job!

  • Willard’s Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) attended the National Fall Leadership Conference in San Antonio, TX. Our Emerging Business Issues team, comprised of Megan Fox, Emma Goodwyn, and Sydney Schader placed 11th in the nation out of more than 250 teams. Senior Cody Parker competed in Networking Concepts, as well. Caden Abramovitz, Ethan Hyde, and freshman Emma Loeber attended as voting delegates. This marks 10 straight years for Willard FBLA to qualify and compete at the national level. We are very proud of their achievements!
  • Our speech and debate team attended two national tournaments with several students placing very high. National Catholic Forensic League (NCFL)
  • Denzel Ransom placed in the Top 48 in Extemporaneous Speaking
  • Ethan Gambriel and Tyler Simpson Placed 4th! National Speech and Debate Association (NSDA) tournament
  • The first Top Six finish for Willard at the National level and our school was awarded the Schools of Honor in Speech!
  • Ethan Gambriel and Tyler Simpson - 2nd in the Nation in Duo Interpretation

With the opening of our sister school, Willard Intermediate - South, it has given our building a unique moment in time to redefine who we are and refocus our attention on growing future ready students. (A significantly less crowded building to learn in is a nice perk as well!) A huge thank you to the Willard Schools community for making the long-time dream of an additional Intermediate building a reality!

Our theme this year is "Our Town, Our School, Our Family" and we've spent the last couple of weeks getting to know each other and our school. Students have been participating in many team builders, getting used to the new furniture, and learning about what it takes to be successful this school year. All teams got to take part in a genre book tasting in the library and check out their first books of the year. Our first student clubs start this week, with many more before the end of September. Clubs such as Tiger Tones, Math, Drama Llamas, Speech & Debate, Pound Fit, and Running will be offered for students to get involved.

Willard Orchard Hills
The beginning of the school year always marks a time of promise and possibility. Each year brings positive change. The most significant changes we've made are the addition of a preschool class and three early childhood classrooms. We are excited for these changes and look forward to a great year!

The major focus this year will be the implementation of the Leader in Me program. Orchard Hills is in the initial stages of becoming a Leader in Me school where students are taught and practice the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. The Leader in Me program empowers young people to make positive, effective, and responsible choices by introducing and reinforcing the 7 Habits, a set of leadership and life skills from Stephen Covey's book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. Over the course of the year students will begin to learn about the 7 Habits. We encourage you to ask questions and engage in this process as we learn together.

We do have a couple of important dates coming up that I want to share with you as well. On Thursday, Sept 19th we will have our first All-Pro Dad's Breakfast of the year. This is a time for dads, or other positive male role models, to come enjoy some great food and good fellowship with their student and other men. We hope you can plan to attend. On Friday, Oct 18th we will be hosting our annual WOHE Fall Festival. This will be a night of fun and games for our kids and families to enjoy together. Please put this on your calendar and we will be sharing more information soon.

This will be an amazing year of learning, growing, and succeeding.
