As we continue to learn and adjust to our environment this school year, we took the time to evaluate our current health protocols as we wrap up first quarter. As you know, we’ve been monitoring student temperatures every morning before school starts. Effective Tuesday, October 20th, we will discontinue this practice and here’s why:
Families are doing a great job of monitoring students for symptoms BEFORE sending students to school. If students feel sick, they are staying home from school! We appreciate your vigilance to self-monitor daily.
The CDC does not recommend universal symptom screening by schools.
The data collected by our Willard Schools Nurses suggests that this practice has not resulted in effectively identifying students that may have COVID-19.
We will continue to encourage good hygiene practices by our students and social distance as possible. If your student is feeling ill, please continue to keep them safely at home. We appreciate your efforts to keep our Willard family healthy!
At the Willard R-II School District, student safety is paramount. Reports of bullying are, and have always been, taken seriously and investigated. If you have knowledge of a bullying situation you are encouraged to promptly report such incident to a school employee, including specifically the Assistant Superintendent or Building Principal.
