Meraz Serves on National Board for Bands of America
By Payton Norris / WHS Journalism Willard band director Victoria Meraz has had the unique opportunity to serve on the Bands of America Advisory Committee for the past two years. “Bands of America is a branch of music for all and it was designed for bands to develop life changing opportunities through music,” Meraz said. She said being a part of this activity has really helped Willard’s band program improve. “It has afforded us great opportunity and our entire program has grown in our abilities and our performance level since we have started working with Bands of America,” Meraz said.
Meraz said it’s an opportunity to perform on a national stage and to have clinics with widely known adjudicators and directors and share the field with the best. “It's a long-standing tradition of excellence and we’re grateful for that and we do everything we can to respect that and strive to continue that excellence,” Meraz said. Meraz said there is one main goal. “The goal is to create life changing experiences for the students who get to participate in this activity,” she said.
At the Willard R-II School District, student safety is paramount. Reports of bullying are, and have always been, taken seriously and investigated. If you have knowledge of a bullying situation you are encouraged to promptly report such incident to a school employee, including specifically the Assistant Superintendent or Building Principal.
