Willard 4th grade students participated in the Willard Oylmpics on Friday April 28 at the high school track. This year the girls 1st place winner was Kenadie Johnson and the 3rd place girls winner was Kenadie Limb, both from Willard East. Congratulations girls and to all the other participants.
Willard East is beginning a transformation process based on the book, The Leader in Me by Franklin Covey. This process teaches leadership and life skills to students and teaches our children that everyone can be a leader.
Willard East is a Digital Media Citizenship Certified School
As our students are becoming one to one with technology at an early age, WEE is striving to empower and protect them. In class, the computer lab, and the library the students have completed their Digital Passports and corresponding curriculum. An agreement came home regarding this comment we want to make with you as a team. At the Common Sense Media site you will find some more information about our efforts, and how you can become an important part of your student's online learning and safety.
Willard East was an exciting place on Wednesday April 5, as one of our very own teachers was honored with the Outstanding Beginning Teacher Award. Fourth grade teacher, Miss Kayla Bobeen was surprised with a visit from two of her former Southwest Baptist University professors.
STEM Club is well under way for 3rd and 4th graders in session 1. This session students were working with Lego Stop Animation to create a short movie. Week 1 students were paired up and asked to create a story board and backdrop with their partner. Week 2 students started building their scene and the props that they would need to complete their movie. We just finished week 3 and everyone did a fantastic job of filming. We have lots of different story lines and they really grasped the idea of short movements working best for their film. Next week, we will have a premier party where the students can all show their films and enjoy some popcorn.
This week 1st Grade classes had the opportunity to have some guest speakers come in and talk to them about community helpers. Our helpers this week were a nurse and Transland trucking. The kids really enjoyed getting to climb inside and look around in the big truck. Some even got to be helpers as nurse Chelsea demonstrated how to put a sling on a broken arm. Thank you Transland and Chelsea for taking time to come and speak to our students!
We will have our April Tiger Pride Assembly tomorrow at 2:30PM. As always, friends and family are invited to celebrate with us! We will have a busy week next week celebrating our awesome teachers! To kick it off on Monday we will have a donut and coffee treat in the parking lot! Willard East Teachers eat free but anyone is welcome to join us!
Thank you for your participation in our fundraiser earlier this year. Ever wondered what we spend that money on? In this case, we needed more chairs! Thanks to you we were able to purchase 84 more chairs to seat individuals for assemblies, music programs, and other events that happen here at our school. We also created a new ball field on the playground! We still have about half of our fundraiser money left. Thanks, again!
We are ready for the holidays at WEE! We've decked the halls and crafted Christmas count downs throughout the building. The 4th graders did an awesome job with Santa's Holiday Playlist musical on Tuesday! As a reminder, we opened the link for our next STEM Club "Tech Squad" session is January 11-February 1, each Wednesday from 3:45-4:45pm. 3rd and 4th graders are invited to participate.
